shimmer the singing sea anemone
2017-2024
shimmer the singing sea anemone is a performative inflatable architecture empathy generator.
there are three small human size anemones and one large anemone with a sensor based touch reactive floor that triggers vocal sounds when stepped on & acts as a large instrument. during the pandemic shimmer further developed into a 360 vr experience and is currently entered into bio-plastic research and fabrication for the next version of the large inflatable.

shimmer in 360
The pandemic forced us to visualize shimmer in a new way, 360 video, unreal engine, and animated anemones. Thank you lock down.
shimmer in the day
the team met for a residency to test the inflatable prototype, interactive floor, and generate interactive movement experiences in january. being in the son of normandy studio at nyu tisch dance where natural light flows through the windows allowed the team to observe shimmer in the day and prompted a night and day light strategy for a durational installation.
